Good question — and you're asking the right thing. The goal with any equation is to get x alone on one side. To do that, you undo everything that's been done to x, in reverse order.

Start with: 2x + 5 = 13
The 5 is being added to 2x. To undo that, subtract 5 from both sides:
2x = 8
Now x is being multiplied by 2. To undo that, divide both sides by 2:
x = 4

The key phrase is "both sides" — whatever you do to one side, you do to the other. That's what keeps the equation balanced. Want to try one on your own?

You don't need to know every body system by heart — you need to read a passage about the circulatory system and answer questions about what it says.
